KHATM-E...

Timing of Khatm-e. It can be performed within the period between the afternoon prayer and the morning prayer.

Short Khatm-e

1. The participants of the khatm-e sit in a circle.
2. 100 small pebble stones are divided based on the number of the participants. 
3. Upon the signal of the one conducting the khatm-e eyes are shut and the participants repeat the phrase astawfirallah 25 times. 
4. When Rabita-i Sherif announcement is made the participants perform rabita for approximately five minutes.
5. Upon the announcement of Fatiha-i Sherif, first seven participants on the right, as well as the announcer, recite the Sura Al-Fatiha starting with Bismillah. 
6. When Salavat-i Sherif announcement is made the participants recite Allahumme Salli ala Muhammedin ve ala ali Muhammed as many times as the number of stones they have beginning with Bismillah. 
7. On Ya Baqi Ente-l Baqi announcement everybody says, with Auzibillahi mina seytani rajim Bismillah-irrahman-irrahim in the beginning, Ya Baqi Ente-l Baqi as many times as the number of stones and this is repeated five times. 
8. Once again, Fatiha-i Sherif announcement is made and this time the first seven participants on the left as well as the announcer recite the Sura Al-Fatiha starting with Bismillah. 
9. When Salavat-i Sherif announcement is made the participants recite the Salavat as mentioned above as many times as the number of stones beginning with Auzi-Bismillah. 
10. The one who is conducting the Khatm-e or somebody else recites the Grand Silsile-i Sherif, the names of those within the Great Chain of Naqshibandiyyah. Upon ita completion, he recites the Ashr-e Sherif or has somebodu else do it. All others will be busy with their Rabita or prayers. Or, they imply that those Ikhwan brothers who could not join the circle are there with them.

After the recital of the Ashr-e Sherif and the announcement of Fatiha-i Sherif the announcer says “May Allah accept this with all its inexactness. All others add “Amen, May Allah be pleased” and open their eyes. This concludes the short khatm-e.


Grand Khatm-e

It is demanded that the grand khatm-e be read, should there be more than 15 participants or at least ten who know Sura Al-Inshirah by heart.

1. Again, all sit to form a roundish circle. 
2. Upon the signal of the one conducting the khatm-e eyes are shut and the participants repeat the phrase astawfirallah 25 times. In the mean time, while someone who knows how to distribute and collect the pebble stones remains within the circle, the ones who know Sura Al-Inshirah hold their right palms open upon their chest to the left and wait to be given stones. Thus, 79 pieces of stones are prepared to be distributed in advance. 
3. When Rabita-i Sherif announcement is made the participants perform rabita and wait for the Al Inshirah stones to be delievered. 
4. Upon the announcement of Fatiha-i Sherif, first seven participants on the right, who have been given Al Fatiha stones or told to recite it in advance, recite the Sura Al-Fatiha starting with Bismillah.
5. When Salavat-i Sherif announcement is made the participants recite Allahumme Salli ala Muhammedin ve ala ali Muhammed as many times as the number of stones they have beginning with Bismillah. 
6. When the announcement is made for Al Inshirah, again beginning with Auzibillahi mina seytani rajim Bismillah-irrahman-irrahim and with only Bismillah-irrahmani-irrahim before others, those with stones recite Sura Al Inshirah. 
7. In addition to the 79 stones, the one in charge of distributing the stones take the 21 stones he has prepared and gives them to those who did not receive any, or, if all have received stones, distributes them as required. Thus, the stones distributed add up to 100. 
8. Upon the announcement for Sura Ikhlas, again beginning with Auzibillahi mina seytani rajim Bismillah-irrahman-irrahim and with only Bismillah-irrahmani-irrahim before others, all recite Sura Ikhlas as many times as the number of stones they have. This is repeated ten times. So, Sura Ikhlas is repeated 1000 times. The announcer recites an extra and adds it up to 1001. 
9. The second round of Sura Fatiha is announced. This time the first seven participants on the left, who were given stones or who were told to do so, recite the Sura Al-Fatiha starting with Auzi Bismillah.
10. Upon the announcement for a second Salavat-i Sherif, everybody recites Salavat-i Sherif as many times as the number of stones, starting with Auzi Bsimillah. 
11. After the Great Chain of Naqshibandiyyah and Ashr-e Sherif, Short Chain of Naqshibandiyyah is recited and the grand khatme is concluded.
